About Shahmat.org

Chess, simplified.

"Shahmat" is the word for chess (and for checkmate) across much of Central Asia and the Persian-speaking world. Shahmat.org is a free, independent chess platform built around one idea: everything a club player actually uses — playing, solving, learning, and improving — belongs in one clean, fast site, without ads or trackers getting in the way.

What you can do here

  • Play — against Stockfish-powered bots at a range of strengths, against real opponents online, or in Fischer Random (Chess960) and 4 Player Chess (Free-for-All).
  • Solve — tactics puzzles with a live rating, plus a fresh Daily Puzzle.
  • Learn — beginner-through-advanced lessons and an AI teacher, or just the core Rules on their own.
  • Train — look up an upcoming opponent's game history (Lichess, Chess.com, Shahmat.org, or FIDE-rated events) to prepare like a real player would.
  • Review — replay any finished game on an interactive board with a live evaluation bar.
  • Watch — spectate top-rated games and friends' games as they happen.
  • Explore — an opening explorer and a searchable games database.
  • Connect — a coaching marketplace to find and book lessons with real coaches, friends, profiles, and collections to save and organize your favorite games.

How it's run

Shahmat.org is built and maintained by a small, independent team. There are no third-party ads and no analytics trackers on this site (see our Privacy Policy) — the site is kept running through optional donations on the Gift page, not through selling attention or data.

Built on open source

The engine, piece art, and sound effects that power the site come from the open-source chess community. Full attribution and licenses are on the Credits page.
